BEVERLY, MA — Coastal Windows & Exteriors, one of the top exterior replacement contractors in the nation and New England, is carrying on their Freedom From Want tradition by donating one free turkey per sale to The Open Door in Gloucester, MA. The donation is inspired by Norman Rockwell’s ‘Freedom from Want’, supporting the company’s ongoing mission to give back to the community.

The mission of The Open Door is to alleviate the impact of hunger in our community. The Open Door uses practical strategies to connect people to good food, to advocate on behalf of those in need, and to engage others in the work of building food security.

The Four Freedoms were initially articulated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt with the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. Freedom from Want means to be in a situation where no one should have to worry about basic needs and comfort in life, ranging from a roof over your head to a hot Thanksgiving Day turkey on your table.

To fulfill their mission of community support, the donation event works like this: every homeowner who purchases energy-efficient replacement windows, roofing, entry doors, and vinyl siding will have a turkey donated to The Open Door. The turkey will be tagged with the customer’s name.

President and CEO, Julie LaFontaine of The Open Door says,

“Coastal Windows & Exteriors’ heart-warming, ‘Freedom from Want’ tradition helps The Open Door feed people at Thanksgiving by donating turkeys each year. The pandemic’s impact on the economy has left many households scrambling to make ends meet. Generous community partners like Coastal Windows & Exteriors help set the holiday table and make a difference for families in our community.”

Turkeys will be purchased from Henry’s Market who are also donating homemade sugar cookies in the shape of turkeys alongside Coastal Windows & Exteriors’ donation.

Henry's Turkey Pick Up

“Henry’s Market is excited for the opportunity to partner up with our good friends at Coastal Windows & Exteriors,” says Mike Halle, Operations Manager at Henry’s Market. “The challenges brought forth by the pandemic have caused a dramatic increase of food insecurity throughout the North Shore.  Stephanie and her team make it a priority to creatively find ways to give back to our community in need, and we’re proudly here to help lend support in that noble cause.”

“We deeply appreciate the trust that so many homeowners have placed in us to protect and secure their most important investment, their homes, with our energy-efficient products,” says Vanderbilt. “In response to that trust, we’ve made it part of our mission to give back to the communities we serve in whatever way possible.  This Thanksgiving, we’re doing so on behalf of our current November customers, with a donation of 31 turkeys to The Open Door, totaling 629 pounds, so that these families can experience Freedom From Want and have no hunger this holiday; especially during this pandemic.”
