Frequently Asked Questions About Windows in South Portland, ME

Fog between panes means a failed seal, and our window company in South Portland, ME fixes it with replacement. Coastal Windows & Exteriors installs new units with an industry-best 0.1 CFM air infiltration rating. Our crews have 7,000+ installations completed since 2011 across 730+ towns in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

Reading the Clues Inside Cloudy Glass

  • Location tells the story: Haze on the room side is everyday condensation you can wipe away. Haze trapped between the panes signals a broken seal instead.
  • A broken seal costs comfort: Insulated units rely on that seal to perform. Healthy double pane glass carries a U-value of about 0.30 to 0.45.
  • Quiet can slip away too: Intact double pane glass reduces outside noise by 30 to 35%. A compromised unit may not hold on to that calm.
  • Defogging isn’t a true repair: Cleaning services can clear visible moisture from the glass.
  • Check the neighbors: Windows installed in the same year tend to age at a similar pace. When one unit fogs, take a close look at the rest.
  • Upgrade while you’re at it: Triple pane glass carries a U-value of 0.20 to 0.30. It also cuts outside noise by about 40 to 50%.
  • Glass technology keeps improving: Advanced glazing is important to 57% of window professionals surveyed. A replacement unit brings that newer technology into your home.

Clearing the View for Good

Top Recommendation: Replace fogged units before winter, since a failed seal won’t restore itself.

Best for Budget: Swap the cloudiest windows now and schedule the rest for next season.

Best for a Quieter Home: Triple pane glass, which reduces outside noise by about 40 to 50%.

Ready to trade that cloudy haze for a clear harbor view? Book a free assessment, and we’ll check every seal in the house. A fogged unit is a quick diagnosis for our trained eyes.

About South Portland, ME

South Portland wears its maritime history with pride. Settlers farmed this stretch of the Fore River as early as 1630. The town broke away from Cape Elizabeth on March 15, 1895. It became a city just three years later. Today it sits a little over 100 miles northeast of Boston, right across the harbor from Portland’s skyline.

During World War II, local shipyards built more than 10% of the nation’s Liberty ships. The Liberty Ship Memorial at Bug Light Park honors that effort today. Nearby, Spring Point Ledge Light has guarded the harbor since 1897, beside historic Fort Preble. Kids splash at Willard Beach, and walkers trace the Greenbelt Walkway along the water. The Maine Mall, the state’s largest shopping center, anchors the busy west end.

Neighborhoods like Knightville, Ferry Village and Meetinghouse Hill each have their own personality. Capes, bungalows and tidy colonials line streets that catch every ocean breeze. Those breezes carry salt, and salt is tough on aging frames. A timely window repair in South Portland, ME helps, but eventually glass and frames give out. That’s when homeowners call window contractors in South Portland, ME who know coastal weather.
