Roofs for Heroes

BEVERLY, MA — Coastal Windows & Exteriors, a woman-owned local and family-owned exterior remodeling company, is proud to announce the launch of their Roof For Heroes program. The initiative of this program is to provide five free roofs to local healthcare workers who are at the front lines of the Coronavirus pandemic. Installed by Coastal Windows & Exteriors, the nominees receive a top-of-the-line GAF full roofing system for their homes at no cost. Numerous partners of the program also donate home upgrades to improve curb appeal as well as their quality of life such as StonyBrook Water, Lucia Lighting, and Revise Energy.

“Many people are working from home and have the time to focus on house projects. But healthcare, first responders, grocery store clerks—they are on the front lines working tirelessly for us,” says Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors. “So that is why we wanted to give back and take care of them.”

Audrey Normand is the first official awardee for the Roofing for Heroes program. A licensed registered nurse in Massachusetts, she is employed at Northshore Education Consortium. Her forever home is currently being upgraded by partner Habitat for Humanity.

Coastal Windows & Exteriors were founded with the goal of creating a home improvement company with an empathetic, customer-first attitude based on educating customers. So far, they have donated over $100,000 in labor and materials to Habitat for Humanity-North Shore.

“When Don Preston, Executive Director of Habitat For Humanity-North Shore, said we have a local school nurse that is in need of a roof I said count me in to help!” says Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors. “What better way to kick off our Roof For Heroes program than with a Habitat For Humanity job who happens to be a school nurse! We are excited to continue serving through this initiative to give back to essential heroes, who work hard and sacrifice for the community every day,”

Normand cares for children with complex medical needs, living the experience with her son who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age four. After two years of treatment, her son is now cancer-free.

“I definitely heard a few cheers from the [Habitat for Humanity] crew when they heard the roof would be donated by Coastal Windows & Exteriors as a part of the Roofs for Heroes program,” says Normand. “[A roof] truly symbolizes providing a home and a ‘roof over the heads’ of my family,” she explains. “Everything that I do, the work that I put in, is for my boys. This will mean that we never have to worry about the safety and security of our roof. I felt as if I won the lottery! I am excited and blown away by how beautiful the roof will be!”

“I feel very blessed to be able to give back to Audrey and her sons to give them that peace of mind with a lifetime GAF roofing system while she cares for her students with complex medical needs as well as her family,” says Vanderbilt. “Our mission is to provide comfort and safety with a gift of a free roof to those who work on the front lines during this COVID-19 pandemic. We need to protect those who protect us and a roof is a promise of protection, security and stability. It’s time to give back and count on us.”

Coastal Windows & Exteriors is seeking four other essential worker nominees. For eligibility, nominees must be employed as an essential worker (healthcare, first responder, grocery store worker, police or firefighter), own a home in Essex County, MA, and must be in the 80% median income or lower for their town to qualify.
