Weekend Projects…remember those?  In between the beach and chasing the ice cream truck maybe you can find time for these 5 cost effective home improvements.  They may not cost a lot, but will make a big difference in how your home looks & functions. I see a contest coming along on who can do all  in one weekend….hmmm, can we entice anyone to join in on a little competition?  Details below if you choose to embark on this weekend warrior adventure.  Bring on your tool belt…..

1.       Replace a Window Treatment

Does your window shade above your kitchen sink have splashes from that tomato sauce pot you cleaned out last winter or are your living room shades so dusty they now look grey? Replace these shades with an inexpensive fabric treatment from Home Goods and see your home in a whole new light. While you’re at it, check to see how your windows have prevailed after this past winter (I know I said the bad “W word). If they’re old and drafty it might be time to replace them with more efficient Energy-Saving Windows.

2.       Mend Your Walkway

Our winters (I know I said the “W” word again) can wreak havoc and cause cracks and gaps in sidewalks and walkways.  A simple patch job will make your walkway look beautiful and safer.  I can hear my friends & family now thanking me!  You can fix the walkway with a cement patching compound.

3.       Update Your Entry Way

Three easy projects to give your front door a facelift. Grab a screwdriver from that tool belt and update that old poorly operating door hardware, find some coastal feel new house numbers and add a nautical door knocker.  Voila!

4.       Create Eye-Catching Curb Appeal

Time to add some color!  Maybe it’s time to change out that exterior color palate for a punch of color that compliments your home’s character. Painting an exterior door is an easy, affordable instant update. Before you paint the door, check it for cracks and rot especially at the base of the door.  Often jams (sides of door) don’t sit on top of thresholds and when they don’t it causes moisture and rot.  This is a common issue we see when replacing doors.  You always want door jams to sit directly on top of the threshold to prevent moisture, mold and rot.  Please check your door to make your door is without rot before painting it.  After your full inspection and sanding, it’s time to paint it.  What do you think of this cheery red door that will welcome family & friends? I think they will love it!

5.       Make Your Entrance Inviting

Well, we already painted the front door.  Why not add a touch of landscaping to enhance that curb appeal?  Make a lasting impression on guests and add a new welcome mat and cheery potted plants.  Lastly, add a porch light from Light & Leisure to enhance your home’s architecture and illuminate the walkway.
