Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors

BOSTON – The SBA named Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors, the 2024 Small Business Person of the Year for Massachusetts. Coastal Windows & Exteriors is a woman-owned, home renovation company located in Beverly, MA, specializing in windows, siding, roofing, and doors. A former teacher for the deaf, Stephanie and her husband David started the business in 2010, initially selling and installing windows, then quickly expanding to full home remodeling.

“Using Salem State University’s Small Business Development Center to build their business plans, the company grew rapidly during the pandemic renovation boom and has continued that momentum,” said District Director Robert Nelson.

In 2020, the company doubled its staff from 5 to 10 despite the COVID-19 challenges. By 2021, the team grew to 20 and now has over 30 skilled professionals.

“I am deeply honored to be named Small Business Person of the Year for Massachusetts,” said Stephanie Vanderbilt. “This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire Coastal Windows & Exteriors team. From humble beginnings above a warehouse to a flagship storefront, we’ve adapted, expanded, embraced sustainability, and committed to giving back to our community.”

Vanderbilt is active in women’s and trade organizations. For example, she participates in National Women in Roofing and the Women’s Business League. Additionally, she is involved with the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston. Moreover, Vanderbilt supports the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts. She also serves on the Beverly Chamber Power of Women Committee. Finally, she is part of the National Association of Home Builders Professional Women in Building Council.

Coastal Windows & Exteriors gives back to a number of charitable causes that supports local communities, including:

  • Coastal donated over $375,000 in products to Habitat for Humanity, including a GAF roof and James Hardie siding.

  • Coastal donated three full roofing projects, worth over $100,000, to Veterans through its Roofs for Heroes initiative.

  • Coastal donated to local food pantries, including Beverly Bootstraps and Open Door in Gloucester.

“As we grow, we remain focused on educating homeowners about energy-efficient roofing, siding, windows, and doors, while enhancing communities and leading environmental stewardship in the Commonwealth,” said Stephanie Vanderbilt. She was nominated by Joe Bevilacqua, President/CEO of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Vanderbilt will receive honors at the National Small Business Week Massachusetts Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 10th, 2024, at the Doubletree Andover.
