Best House Siding for Cold Climates: Choose Vinyl Siding as a Weatherproof, Waterproof, and Beautiful Exterior Upgrade
With the first day of winter 2020 approaching, it’s time to consider winter home improvement projects that will make your home look and feel cozy.
One of the winter home renovations to consider is new vinyl siding installation. It’s ideal for preparing your house for winter with its insulated paneling that blocks heat transfer, keeping your home cozy all winter long.
What Makes Vinyl Siding Better than Wood?
New England is full of homes with wood siding and cedar siding. While this type of siding feels nostalgic in our area, the truth is that it can do your home more harm than good.
- Old wood and cedar shingle siding are prone to rot if not meticulously maintained. Wet, soggy, and snow winters offer the potential for significant damage to wood exterior. In the spring, you might be met with rotted wood siding!
- Moisture can also damage the underside of the exterior, causing rotting and mold issues beneath the panels.
- Wood siding can easily catch fire, which is a significant concern during the winter and holiday months. Vinyl siding is engineered from PVC which can slow the spread of house fires.
- Vinyl siding gives the look of wood without the maintenance, complete with textured paneling and cedar shakes that appear split by hand. It is by far the best house siding for cold climates.
- Insulated siding can conserve energy in your home during the winter. It will also help reduce heat loss as vinyl siding can insulate down to the wood studs.
Just like your clay pot snowman, your house siding must be able to withstand the winter elements. Vinyl siding is by far the best siding for cold climates, equipped with durable materials that will keep your exterior in tip-top condition.
