We are so excited that Jen Migonis from Migonis Home gave us the go ahead to share this fun nautical DIY project with Coastal’s blog readers. This year Jen is decorating for summer with a more natural flare (with something that won’t die!).

Jen and her kids went to Pebble Beach in Rockport a few weeks ago to get rocks for their checkerboard table and came away with piles and piles of rocks. These particular rocks were nice and smooth from many years of tumbling in the ocean. Jen created a low display for her kitchen table so her family could see each other without moving it. Additionally, the simple design kept the table functional and inviting during meals. The wooden centerpiece was an old silverware holder for the gray mirrored buffet which she painted.

Jen filled her pallet box with large rocks to create a nice barrier from the living area. Additionally, the rocks help hide bills that usually cover the desk or her son’s car board, which protects it from their daughter.

Jen’s mantle holds jars that were re-purposed. Each jar is filled with rocks and more rocks. The center of the mantle holds pieces of driftwood that Jen found in various places over the years. On the larger pieces of driftwood Jen painted the coordinates of her hometown, Manchester by the Sea. Her inspiration came from seeing coordinates on a pillow during a visit to a Rockport gift shop.

To paint the coordinates Jen simply printed them out in the font and size she wanted and then free-handed the design.
