Holiday Open House

Christmas is upon us with only one week away which means it’s time to gather together and spend time with friends… party season has officially begun! I’m so excited to share all the fizzy details of this merry, easy, cozy-by-the-fire “holiday open house.” Not only is it full of warm, festive ideas, but it also features the ultimate s’mores experience. In fact, this celebration promises to be both delightful and memorable from start to finish!

Soup’s on.

I like to have a warm & cozy meal that’s not just cheese and crackers that I can literally just keep on the stove and people can help themselves. It allows me to mix and mingle and not to be chained to the stove. The idea is to relax and chat with friends, right? I make a simple Pasta e Fagoli soup (Saute pancetta then add some carrots, celery, onion and garlic. Then add 3 cans of cannolini beans and one can of diced tomatoes. Add one large carton of chicken broth. Simmer 30 min. as my nephew Ryan says, easy peasy lemon squeezy!)  and serve tubitini pasta and parmesan cheese on the side. David makes garlic bread croutons too! I also put out devilled eggs, along with a gorgeous crudité and cheese platter, as well as mixed spiced nuts, and finally, an Italian charcuterie board.

This year I mixed it up and instead of mugs of cocoa I set out a festive eggnog bar. Dress up store-bought eggnog with a sprinkle of nutmeg and garnish with a cinnamon stick or a few star anise.

Hey sweet thing.

To add an extra thoughtful touch, pack up “cookie to-go boxes” for guests to enjoy at home. Moreover, this small gesture helps share the holiday spirit beyond the gathering itself. If you’re short on time, don’t worry—just whip up these quick and easy snowballs. In fact, they’re always a crowd-pleaser and require minimal effort.

When it comes to holiday cookie variety, remember this: less is more simply doesn’t apply. Instead, embrace abundance, creativity, and flavor to make your dessert table truly festive.

Bring the outside in by adding branches of red berries, greens and pinecones to the table. This also doesn’t require the skills of a floral designer. Simply gather berries, greens and pinecones and place in pretty bowl. I added battery operated lights from Pier One to add a little glam!

Cozy up.

Leave a basket of red socks next to the door and invite guest to warm up next to the fire. I also leave lots of blankets and floor pillows encourage them to stay-a-while and cozy up!

Reindeer games.

Everyone enjoys a little friendly competition so I leave a few board games (Monopoly, Scrabble and Pictionary) out on the coffee table as this makes a perfect fireside activity.

S’More fun.

This is always a fireside favorite-make your own s’mores. Add some glam with your s’mores bar by adding dark chocolates, Nutella, and hand-crafted marshmallows found at Home Goods. I leave a basket next to the fire with long sticks and extra napkins!
