BEVERLY, MA [September 15, 2016] — On Wednesday, September 14, Coastal Windows & Exteriors joined Habitat for Humanity North Shore to provide a new roof, all new windows, and a new deck for Peabody homeowner Charlene Cruz, a lung cancer survivor on disability in critical need.

The roof at Cruz’s home, located at 5 Sanborn Street, had curling shingles, algae growth and was at the end of its life. Her windows were old and inefficient, and her rotting deck was no longer safe to walk on.

The team at Coastal Windows & Exteriors provided Cruz with more than $20,000 in materials, including a top-of-the-line GAF Master Elite Lifetime roof, featuring a transferrable twenty-five year labor workmanship warranty and a lifetime warranty on the shingles, and all new Energy-Star award-winning Soft-Lite windows.

Cruz expressed amazement at the work that was done, and gratitude for the generosity and hard work of Coastal Windows & Exteriors owner Stephanie Vanderbilt and her team. “Without their help, I could not have stayed in my home,” Cruz said. “I’m so grateful for everything they’ve done. It’s a miracle!”

Prior to the build, Don Preston, president of Habitat for Humanity North Shore, noted “This project will be one of the most ambitious that we’ve undertaken in Peabody this year. Thanks to Coastal Windows & Exteriors’ generosity with the roof replacement, we are able to leverage funds from the City of Peabody Community Preservation Act toward updating the windows, which also need replacement, and fixing the front porch.  This is a great example of bringing together the public, private, and non-profit sectors to accomplish more than any one of us could do alone.”

The build day was a festive occasion.  Coastal Windows & Exteriors provided lunch for the entire crew, while dessert was donated by Half-Baked and Painted Pastry of Beverly.  Adding to the day’s fun was a visit from second graders at nearby Welch Elementary School, who discussed the importance of community service, and the need for strong, secure, and energy-efficient roofing and windows, with Vanderbilt, a former teacher of the deaf in the Peabody Public School system.  They left with new backpacks provided by Coastal Windows & Exteriors and apples donated by Brooksby Farm.

“This was our fourth Habitat for Humanity project here on the North Shore, and it was incredibly gratifying for all of us at Coastal Windows & Exteriors to help Charlene,” said Vanderbilt.  “As part of this community, we are dedicated to helping make sure that all of our neighbors live in safe and secure homes.”

Homeowner, Charlene Cruz, presented Coastal with a beautiful framed poem…
