PEABODY — Last winter, Charlene Cruz wore four pairs of socks around her house to keep warm. She always had to cover her windows with plastic, but even that stopped working. And two weeks ago, she stepped out onto her deck only to have the board collapse beneath her foot.
But after Wednesday’s Habitat for Humanity build, Cruz will have a brand new roof and windows, donated by Coastal Windows and Exteriors. She’ll even have a new deck.
“I was shocked,” Cruz said. “I didn’t think anyone would help me out.”
