What do you think the primary purpose of your home’s siding is? Is it there to primarily make your home look good and fit in with your neighborhood aesthetic? Or is it there for another reason?

The most basic reason for SIDING a house is to protect it from the elements.  There are many inferior home siding products out there so you need to be educated.  You should replace it ONLY once so here are four basic ways to know if it’s time to replace your home’s siding:

#1: Things inside the house aren’t operating as smoothly as usual. Are your heating and cooling costs off from where they were the previous years at that same time? Take a look at your wallpaper and paint… are they peeling?  If either of these things are happening it could mean you have a big problem on your hands. If the elements are entering your home, even a little moisture could really set you back.

#2: The siding is wearing significantly worse than when you first got it. Look for these tell-tale signs of poorly functioning home siding; all of these are signs that moisture has crept beneath the surface of the siding.

  1. Fungus or mold on the siding.
  2. Dry rot on the siding.
  3. Siding is wavy or warped.

#3: You’ve noticed little holes in your home siding. Little holes mean big problems. These holes come from insects and aside from them eating the wood frame of your house they allow the rain and snow to come in through the holes they’ve created.

#4: Your paint job isn’t looking too spiffy. Take a look at the older builder’s grade vinyl siding color fade warranty.  Most siding warranties are prorated and by the time they start to fade you own it and can’t put a claim in.  The older inferior builder’s grade vinyl siding are reflective in the warranties they provide-be aware!

What can you do about this?
