I would like to start by saying this fireplace is over 125 years old and the only thing burned in it are candles.

The brick was covered in years of soot and ash. The hearth tiles were old and cracked and the color didn’t do anything to highlight the beautiful Victorian mantel.

Supplies needed are a quart of matte black paint (fire resistant paint if you use your fireplace), a foam roller, adhesive faux marble vinyl tile squares and a box cutter. For a more professional look lay tile on the diagonal.
Vinyl flooring should only be used on a non working fireplace since it is not fire-resistant.

From Sad & Sooty to Seasonal Styled
To make this mantel holiday ready I added garlands with gold and crystal beading for the foundation.  Small battery operated lights were tucked in to add more sparkle along with mercury glass votive and French ribbon on the topiaries. For the hearth I added mercury glass trees in varying sizes with more votive candles for a Warm & Cozy feel. I hope you found this makeover inspiring!
