LYNN, MA — Coastal Windows & Exteriors joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to offer a veteran a new roof for his home in Lynn, Massachusetts. This is part of the Coastal Windows & Exteriors’ Roof for Heroes program, designed to provide a full GAF Roofing System without charge to those who protect our community. The total donation is valued at $21,290.
A Roof That Changes Lives
Vincent Gunning, a Vietnam War Navy veteran and retired postal carrier, was living in a home with a collapsing roof. Over time, extensive rot damage led to increasingly unsafe conditions. Additionally, Gunning wears a prosthetic leg and has mobility issues, which made home maintenance extremely difficult. As a result, the deteriorating state of the home ultimately became too hazardous for him to live in safely.
Recognizing the urgency, Don Preston, board member of Essex County Habitat For Humanity, reached out to Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors. Without hesitation, they began preparations and installed a brand-new GAF roofing system the very next week. “It is amazing to see how a community comes together to support a veteran and his housing needs. What Coastal Windows & Exteriors has done with the roof is magical!” states Preston.
