A homeowner in Rockland, MA had house windows with a plethora of problems. Upon arrival, we found an all-too-common issue for our New England region: old wood window frames that were cracking, chipping, and peeling. These windows were drafty, leading to considerable energy loss–especially considering that outdated windows can lose roughly 25% of a home’s energy. Not only is this costly, but it results in uncomfortable living spaces during the colder months.
With constant drafts and escalating energy bills, this homeowner reached out to us at Coastal Windows & Exteriors for help. The rotting exterior sills and trim only added to the urgency of needing a complete window replacement overhaul.
Our job was to replace 5 existing windows with high-quality, energy efficient replacement windows. These are double-hung, triple-pane windows known for their superior energy efficiency and durability. Double hung windows are also one of the most popular window styles in New England!
To maintain the home’s aesthetic and historical integrity, we chose windows with internal grids in a six-over-six light pattern, adding a classic touch to the window design.

If you are adding on to your home or installing a new window in an existing wall, you can use new construction windows. But replacement windows are intended to fit into existing window frames, assuming that the frames are in sound shape.
